Today the OTHER media launches a staff competition for social media.

At the OTHER media we have always believed strongly in practising what we preach to our clients. This means that many of us blog ourselves. Some of us run small sites for friends or groups we belong to and at least two of us run small ecommerce sites.

Recently, as we have become more involved with our clients' overall digital strategies we have been pooling our experience of using social networks and micro-blogging sites to demonstrate how these services can be used properly, grown organically and properly analysed.

Today, to encourage our staff to explore these ideas even further we have launched our Twitter Follower Challenge (just for us). This will reward staff who explore how to sensibly attract additional followers and encourage them to record the strategies that they use. There are a series of prizes for adding 500, 1000 and 5000 additional followers and to discourage buying followers the numbers must be maintained for 30 days.

We will report back regularly on the strategies we are using and tell you what works and what does not.

Here are some initial ideas that we may be exploring:

  1. Tweeting expertise
  2. Add followers and we'll give to charity
  3. Make extensive use of Twitter lists
  4. Competitions and incentives
  5. Answering questions
  6. Posting more content online and twittering links to it
  7. Retweet tools and mashups
  8. Personal versus business tweets
  9. Leveraging Facebook friends

To help all our staff, here is a list of those who use Twitter:
