Introducing Surrey County Cricket Club

Surrey County Cricket Club is one of London’s premier cricket teams, based primarily at the Brit Oval in Kennington. Surrey play in the County Championship, the Twenty20 Cup and the Pro40 league; they've been County Champions 19 times.

The challenge

Surrey County Cricket Club’s website had grown organically, with parts being added ad hoc over time: this had created an inflexible design, with the homepage being a particular problem. The club recognised this issue and set out to find a web agency able to build them a first class website; we were chosen from a group of strong contenders in 2005. Surrey chose the OTHER media to refresh its website design again in 2007, while also integrating new shop functionality and PA feeds.

What we did

We worked closely with Surrey Cricket to create a workable, future-proof information architecture; design and CMS which matched their needs. The homepage was of central importance, with the page acting as a portal to all the major events at the club. The new homepage design allowed for promotional and news spaces, signposting key events at relevant times. When we integrated the shop, cross promotion came to the fore, with products that would interest the public being placed on relevant article pages to drive traffic and increase revenue.

The results

The new Surrey CCC website has been well received, with unique visitor numbers growing consistently and peaking throughout the months of April, May, June and July this year. Live score feeds and the club’s innovative ‘Surrey TV’ have both proved popular, while the most viewed content on-site is ticketing and team information - good news for ticket sales.
