the OTHER media were commissioned to produce the new site having run the website and worked on digital strategy for the brand, since 2004. The brief required that the site, in addition to reflecting the strong design aesthetic of Paul Smith, needed to provide a fantastic user experience, increase the effectiveness of online sales and be easily adaptable to accommodate the creativity of the brand.

Commenting on the new site Jonathan Towle from Paul Smith said, “We want our customers’ experience to be a seamless one whether in-store or online. The new site delivers on every point, reflecting the dynamism of the brand while still being simple and intuitive to use.”

the OTHER media have developed the site so that it provides the best possible viewing experience for a wide range of devices; it has a simple, clean interface and was built using HTML. This doesn’t comprise the design however, which incorporates large, animated images to create a strong visual impact. The collections has a smooth scrolling interface, allowing the user to browse easily through the collections; this was achieved without using Flash or affecting the speed of the site.

Ecommerce is a key feature of the site; Paul Smith has offered online purchasing since 2004 and the new site develops the Shop Online section further. In addition to continuing the stylish design that runs throughout the site, it also offers the ability to quickly filter from hundreds of items down to one, using a guided navigation system. the OTHER media has also designed a streamlined single page checkout process to guide customers through their experience.

Paul Smith is prolific in his creative output and works on many projects simultaneously across all areas of the creative and arts industry. The Paul Smith World section presents an overview of these projects and by being constantly updated, it feels fresh every time a user returns.

George Crabb, managing director at the OTHER media said, “Working with Paul Smith is always an inspiring experience, they have the innovative approach that you’d expect from the UK’s leading fashion designer and a willingness to explore new avenues. We’re already working on new feature areas and content for the site which should be launched later in the year.”
